In Summer 2009, Chishima Real Estate exhibited “Rubber Duck” which was designed by Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman on the river at Nakanoshima Osaka as part of company’s contribution for society.
This project was arranged to support “Aqua Metropolis Osaka 2009”, an event held by Osaka Prefectural Government and the City of Osaka, etc. Chishima acted as one of private companies, contributed the project to let more people to enjoy and feel familiar with contemporary art.
The cute looking of 9.5 meter high giant duck became so popular, and this unusual scene at Nakanoshima delighted many people.

The Rubber Duck knows no frontiers, it doesn’t discriminate people and doesn’t have a political connotation. The friendly, floating Rubber Duck has healing properties: it can relieve mondial tensions as well as define them. The rubber duck is soft, friendly and suitable for all ages!

Florentijn Hofman is based at Rotterdam, Holland and his main field is exhibiting large works at public space.
Rubber Duck is one of his works and has been exhibited in France, Brazil and Belgium.
