18th Century to
early 19th Century
Tachu Shibakawa has a medical practice in Kyoto.
Tachu Shibakawa’s son-in-law, Shinroku, opens a Kimono shop in Osaka.
1837 Shinroku’s son-in-law, Shinsuke, moves to 4 Fushimi-machi and starts a trading business.
1852 Shinsuke’s son-in-law, Mataemon I (later Matahei) established a branch family and starts the trading business.
1878 Purchases 496,000 ㎡ of land in Chitose-Shinden.
The Osaka Chamber of Commerce is established, and Matahei becomes a director.
1879 Purchases 673,200 ㎡ of land in Kagaya-Shinden; Matahei is appointed President of the Dojima Rice Exchange.
1880 The Osaka Commercial Training Institute (now Osaka City University) is established. Matahei donates to the institute in its early years.
1884 Obtains land in Nishinomiya-Kotoen.
1886 Purchases 613,800 ㎡ of land in Chishima-Shinden.
Matahei closes the trading business.
1896 Mataemon II establishes the Osaka Forestation Limited Partnership Co. together with Ryouhei Murayama (founder of Asahi Newspaper) and Shuzo Toyama (Banker).
Mataemon II begins operating an orchard in Nishinomiya-Kotoen.
Early 1911 The Mataemon Shibakawa Residence in Nishinomiya-Kotoen is completed (designed by Goichi Takeda, one of the architects representing Meiji-Taisho area).
1912 Chishima Real Estate Co., Ltd. is established (capital: 150,000 yen).
The Osaka Club (gentlemen’s club) is established. Matashiro is one of founders.
1918 Donates 10,570 ㎡ land for the Osaka Municipal Tramway.
1919 Company headquarters are moved (Kobayashi-cho,Nishi-ku)
1920 Donates 11,320 ㎡ land for the Osaka Municipal Tramway.
1926 The Takarazuka Golf Club is established. Matashiro is a founding member.
1927 Construction of the Shibakawa Building is completed.
Donates 4,920 ㎡ land to Osaka City for construction road.
Donates 17,300 ㎡ land to Hankai Tramway Co., Ltd.
Land in Uegahara is transferred to Kansei Gakuin University.
1928 Donates a kindergarten building and grounds (1,252 ㎡ ) to Tezukayama Gakuin.
1929 The Shiransha Kasei Gakuen (academy for women) opens in the Shibakawa Building.
1934 Matashiro invests in the establishment of Dainipponkaju Co., Ltd. (now The Nikka Whisky Distilling Co., Ltd.).
1940 Purchases the Hyuga Farm in Miyazaki Prefecture (sold to the Miyazaki Prefecture in 1951).
1941 Purchases Makurazaki tea garden in Kagoshima Prefecture (sold to Nitto Chagyo Co., Ltd. in 1949).
1948 Construction of a lumberpond in Hirabayashi, Sumiyoshi-ku, Osaka City commences.
1949 Hyakumata Co., Ltd. is established.
1952 Hyakumata Co., Ltd. prepares land for residential development in Kotoen.
1967 Construction of the Kyomachibori-Chishima Building (headquarter shift), Doushiba Building and Shoshiba Building is completed.
1969 Construction of the Nishinomiya-Chishima House is completed.
Construction of the Shin-Shibakawa Building is completed.

2006 The Shibakawa Building is designated as a National Registered Tangible Cultural Property (Building)
2007 Company begins operating the rental space “Shibakawa Building Modern Terrace.”
The Mataemon Shibakawa Residence is moved to The museum Meiji-Mura and opened to the public for viewing.
The Old Namura Shipyard Osaka Factory is designated as a Heritage of Industrial Modernization by METI.
2009 Kitakagaya Creative Village (KCV) Project: vacant house reutilization project is launched.
The “Rubber Duck Project 2009” was awarded by the Osaka chamber of commerce for contributing to regional economy of Osaka.
The exterior relief on the Shibakawa Building is repaired by the assistance of Osaka City.
2010 The Shibakawa Building is awarded the “Contribution to Urban Development Prize” by the Osaka Building Owners & Managers Association.
The Shibakawa Building is registered by Chuo-ku, Osaka City, as an “Osaka Cityscape Resource.”
Hirabayashi Land Readjustment Co., Ltd. is established.
2011 The company receives the Grand Mécénat Award at the MECENAT Awards 2011.
Chishima Foundation for Creative Osaka is established.
2012 100th anniversary of the establishment of Chishima Real Estate Co., Ltd. (Issue a memorial book)
Kitakagaya Creative Village (KCV) Project: vacant land reutilization project: “Kitakagaya Minna-Nouen”, the Kitakagaya Creative Farm Project, is launched.
2013 Landfill construction work at the Hirabayashi No. 4 East Lumberpond is completed.
